Gary Sinise makes bombshell statement about acting

Gary Sinise’s daughter, Ella, recently talked about returning to acting, as he took a break from the limelight six years ago.

While conversing with PEOPLE magazine for an interview alongside her parents and sister, Sophie, she stated that her father never made acting her “identity.”

Articulating her thoughts, Ella said, “Dad’s my dad. And, sure, he did some acting, but that’s not his identity.”

“It’s a huge part of who he is, but you are not Gary the actor, you’re Gary the father, and the husband, and…the caregiver. There’s so many other things that make you who you are, and not just your acting,” the 34-year-old explained.

For those unaware, the 71-year-old American retired actor and director’s last acting job was the 2018 Netflix drama 13 Reasons Why, which starred him as Dr. Robert Ellman. It was the same time when both his wife, Moira Harris, and their son, McCanna Anthony, were diagnosed with cancer.

Gary was also taking care of his ailing father, Robert L. Sinise, and that’s when he dedicated his full time to his family.

According to the Mission to Mars star’s new memoir, Graceful Warrior: The True Story of a Son, a Father and a Family Who Carried Each Other Through, “Home needed me more than Hollywood did.”

It is pertinent to mention that Gary Sinise’s son, McCanna, lost his five-and-a-half-year battle with chordoma (an ultra-rare, slow-growing form of bone cancer that develops in the spine or skull base) at the age of 33 on January 5, 2024.

Graceful Warrior: The True Story of a Son, a Father and a Family Who Carried Each Other Through will be out on November 10, 2026.
