Netflix’s crime drama ‘The Gentlemen’ is returning for a third season, with Robert Carlyle, Elijah Wood and Orlando Bloom among the new additions to its expanding cast as production gets under way in the United Kingdom and Morocco.
Created by Guy Ritchie, the series will see Theo James reprise his role as Eddie Horniman, alongside Kaya Scodelario as Susie Glass. The newcomers include Dexter Fletcher, Bruna Marquezine, Ed Speleers, Saffron Burrows, Philip Arditti and Bugzy Malone.
Announcing the new season, Ritchie said the ambition of the series had grown, with its fictional world expanding and the consequences of its characters’ actions becoming more significant, according to Netflix Tudum.
“The ambition of ‘The Gentlemen’ has accelerated, the world has expanded, and the consequences carry weight,” he said. “A third season felt inevitable, and I’m looking forward to pushing the boundaries of it further.”
The announcement follows a turbulent second season in which Eddie moved beyond his initial reluctance to enter the criminal underworld and focused on expanding his empire into Italy while becoming involved in parliamentary politics.
His ambitions, however, strained his business relationships with Bobby, played by Ray Winstone, and Susie, while bringing devastating losses. Although Eddie emerged on top, the season finale raised questions about how far he was prepared to go to protect his position and settle scores.
Lead writer and executive producer Matthew Read said he hoped viewers would question Eddie’s capacity for ruthlessness following the events of the previous season.
James similarly suggested that the character’s pursuit of revenge could come at the cost of his identity, raising questions about how much of himself Eddie might lose along the way.
Meanwhile, Susie’s position has also changed. Scodelario said her character had realised she could no longer depend on her father’s name or assume Eddie would remain a reliable business partner, signalling a possible shift in their relationship.
Netflix has not announced a release date for the eight-episode third season.
