  3. The Lahore Fort is believed to have originally been a Hindu structure, built during the reign of the Hindu Shahi rulers of the region. The area of Lahore, located near the Ravi River, was an important center of Hindu culture and politics, and it is likely that the fort, or a precursor to it, was built as a stronghold or royal residence during this time.

The Chach dynasty ruled Sindh and parts of the Punjab region (including Lahore) from the early 7th century. The founder, Chach, ascended the throne in c. 632 CE, after overthrowing the Rai dynasty.
The Chach dynasty faced numerous challenges, including internal strife, local resistance, and external threats, particularly from the Arab forces expanding into the Indian subcontinent.
The Arab invasion of Sindh led by Muhammad bin Qasim in 711 CE was the ultimate blow to the Chach dynasty. After the defeat of the Chach rulers, Sindh came under the control of the Arab Umayyad Caliphate, and Lahore also eventually became part of this larger Arab-controlled region.

However, it was the Hindu Shahi dynasty that emerged after the Chach dynasty's fall and eventually ruled parts of Punjab, including Lahore. Here's how the Hindu Shahi dynasty rose to power and took control of Lahore.
The Hindu Shahi dynasty was founded by Kallar in the 8th century, who reasserted Hindu rule over parts of the northwestern subcontinent, including the region of Lahore.
Kallar, a local Hindu ruler, managed to overthrow the Arab presence in parts of Punjab and establish the Hindu Shahi dynasty, with its capital initially in Udbina (near modern-day Peshawar). Over time, the Hindu Shahi dynasty began expanding its influence in the Punjab, and it is believed that Lahore eventually came under the control of the Hindu Shahi rulers.

Lahore was the capital of the Hindu Shahi dynasty, which ruled much of what is now Pakistan and Afghanistan from the 9th to the 11th centuries. During this time, the fort would have served as a royal palace or military stronghold. The Shahi rulers were known for their Hindu religious practices and for promoting Hindu culture.

Jai Pal and Anand Pal were prominent figures in the history of the Hindu Shahi dynasty, which ruled parts of present-day Pakistan and Afghanistan before the Islamic conquests. Their connection to Lahore is significant, as they were involved in the defense of the region against the early Muslim invasions, particularly by the Ghaznavid Empire.
    Jai Pal (Reign: 969–1001 CE)

Jai Pal was one of the most famous rulers of the Hindu Shahi dynasty. His reign is marked by significant resistance to the Muslim invasions, particularly the forces of Mahmud of Ghazni, the Sultan of the Ghaznavid Empire, who sought to expand his dominion into the northwestern regions of the Indian subcontinent.

Jai Pal’s struggle is most notable for his confrontations with Mahmud of Ghazni, who invaded the region multiple times between 1000 and 1026 CE. Jai Pal, a staunch Hindu king, initially tried to resist Mahmud's attacks. He gathered an alliance of Hindu rulers from the region to defend against the invaders.

However, the most critical event during Jai Pal's reign was the Battle of Peshawar (1001 CE), where Jai Pal's forces were decisively defeated by Mahmud. According to some sources, Jai Pal’s defeat marked a turning point, although he was eventually released. After this defeat, Jai Pal is said to have chose to end his life by self-immolation (Jauhar), a practice in which a ruler would sacrifice himself to avoid capture or dishonor.

Anand Pal (Reign: After Jai Pal, circa 1001–1015 CE)

Anand Pal was the son of Jai Pal and succeeded him as the ruler of the Hindu Shahi dynasty. His reign continued the resistance against the growing Islamic power in the region, though his efforts also met with difficulties in the face of the expanding Ghaznavid Empire.

Anand Pal initially tried to rally his forces to defend his kingdom from further Ghaznavid invasions after his father’s defeat and death. He is said to have fought bravely in defense of the region, particularly in the areas around Lahore and Peshawar. However, much like his father, Anand Pal ultimately could not withstand the might of Mahmud of Ghazni.

Anand Pal's reign ended with his defeat by Mahmud of Ghazni, who further cemented his control over the region. After Anand Pal's defeat, the Hindu Shahi dynasty's power declined significantly, and Mahmud of Ghazni took control of Lahore and much of the northwestern region, marking the start of a long period of Muslim rule in the area.
    The Role of Lahore:

Lahore, during Jai Pal and Anand Pal's time, was an important center of the Hindu Shahi kingdom. It served as a political and cultural hub, and the events involving these rulers are closely linked to the defense of the region, particularly against the invasions of Mahmud of Ghazni. After their defeats, Lahore became a key site for subsequent Islamic rulers, particularly the Ghaznavids, who established their capital there.

Mahmud’s conquest of Lahore in the early 11th century marked the end of the Hindu Shahi rule in the region. The city, which had long been a center of Hindu culture and governance, soon began its transformation into an important center of Islamic culture and rule, especially during the Ghaznavid and later Mughal periods.

  4. **Lahore, Koh-i-Noor, and the Political Economy of Partition:

A Revisionist Interpretation of British Strategic Interests (1849–1947)**

    Abstract

This paper advances a revisionist hypothesis that British reluctance to allocate Lahore to India in 1947 cannot be understood solely through demographic criteria. It argues that colonial extraction of wealth from Lahore—symbolized by the Koh-i-Noor diamond and the dismantling of the Lahore Darbar—created a long-term British strategic interest in weakening Indian legal and moral claims over Sikh and Punjabi imperial property. By detaching Lahore from post-colonial India, the British effectively diluted continuity-based restitution claims over artifacts seized from the Sikh Empire in 1849. While direct documentary proof remains absent, the argument demonstrates motive, opportunity, and precedent, situating Lahore’s fate within a broader imperial logic of asset retention.

    1. Lahore Before 1947: Demography vs. Ownership
1.1 Population Is Not the Same as Power

    The 1941 census shows:

    Muslims: ~55%

    Hindus + Sikhs: ~45%

However, colonial historians and economic studies consistently show:

    80–90% of urban land ownership

Majority control of banks, factories, trade houses

    Municipal governance, courts, education, publishing

were dominated by Hindu and Sikh elites, especially Sikhs as inheritors of the Sikh Empire’s capital city.

Lahore functioned economically and institutionally as a Sikh–Hindu imperial city with a Muslim demographic majority, not as a Muslim-owned city.

This distinction matters, because British colonial law historically privileged property, not population when adjudicating sovereignty.

    2. Lahore Darbar and the Seizure of Imperial Assets (1849)
2.1 Koh-i-Noor Was Not an Isolated Object

The Koh-i-Noor was part of a larger extraction:

    Royal treasury of Lahore Darbar

    Jewels, arms, manuscripts, thrones

    State revenues and land settlements

The Treaty of Lahore (1849) was signed by:

    a 10-year-old Maharaja Duleep Singh

    under British military occupation

Modern legal scholarship increasingly views such treaties as coercive instruments, not free contracts.

    Key point:
Lahore was not just a city — it was the juridical seat of the Sikh Empire, from which Britain derived contested assets.

    3. Why Post-Colonial India Was a Greater Threat Than Pakistan
3.1 Legal Continuity and Restitution Logic

    India inherited:

    British Indian legal structures

    Imperial archival continuity

Claims as successor to princely states

    Pakistan, by contrast:

    Was a new dominion

Had no civilizational continuity with Sikh sovereignty

Had no political incentive to pursue Koh-i-Noor restitution

If Lahore were in India, India could argue:

Koh-i-Noor was taken from Lahore-based sovereign authority

The treaty was invalid due to minority coercion

Assets belonged to the subcontinent’s historic imperial capital

Removing Lahore from India fractured that claim.

    4. The Radcliffe Line: Neutral on Paper, Political in Effect

    Radcliffe:

    Had no knowledge of India

    Worked under severe time pressure

    Used district-level data selectively

    Crucially:

Other mixed cities (e.g., Gurdaspur tehsils) were split strategically

Economic logic was subordinated to geopolitical outcomes

    Lahore’s allocation:

Severed India from its historic north-western imperial capital

    Ensured Pakistan’s viability

Protected British post-imperial interests by dispersing successor claims

    This aligns with British precedent:

Divide successor states to avoid unified restitution demands
(seen earlier in Ottoman, African, and Caribbean decolonization)

    5. Motive, Opportunity, and Silence in the Archives
    5.1 Motive

Britain faced increasing global pressure over looted artifacts

Koh-i-Noor was symbolically central to imperial legitimacy

    5.2 Opportunity

    Partition chaos allowed irreversible decisions

No international oversight over boundary drawing

    5.3 Silence ? Innocence

Absence of explicit documents does not negate:

    Strategic self-interest

    Colonial habit of informal decision-making

    Plausible deniability

Historians increasingly recognize “archival silences” as evidence of power, not absence.

    Theoretical support

    Michel-Rolph Trouillot, Silencing the Past

Ann Laura Stoler, Along the Archival Grain

    6. Conclusion

This paper does not claim definitive proof that Koh-i-Noor alone decided Lahore’s fate.
    It argues instead that:

Economic ownership, imperial extraction, and post-colonial restitution risk together created a structural incentive for Britain to exclude Lahore from India.

    In this reading:

    Lahore’s loss was not accidental

    Demography was a convenient justification

The deeper logic lay in imperial asset protection

  5. Though it's very highly controversial but an Indian researcher in US tells another story/theory in which as per him he establishes British complicity on Partition of Punjab in particular and India in general and linked it with murder of Michael O Dywer by Udham Singh all together with evidences worth attention. He narrated the story as such:
Sardar Udham Singh went to London and took revenge of hanging of Shaheed Bhagat Singh and Jalianwal bagh massacre, he killed former Punjab governor Michael O Dywer of jalianwala Bagh fame on March 13 1940 in London. Former governor Michael O Dywer was governor of Punjab when Jalianwala bagh incident took place in April 1919. He was living a retired life but was part of British deep state. British were rattled by this incident in London of murder of Michael O Dywer by Udham Singh especially Churchill had hated Indians and had decided to partition Punjab and Bengal to punish Indian nationalists.Ten days after this event of murder of Michael O Dywer by Udham Singh on March 13 1940 in London British responded by passing separate homeland for muslims resolution in Minto Park Lahore on March 23 1940. This date March 23 is the same date in which Bhagat Singh was hanged in Lahore in 1931. Now If you research on Minto Park you will find that Lord Minto was the viceroy who faced first Indian nationalists uprising during first partition of Bengal in 1905. Lord Minto is the one who got created Muslim League in 1906 in Dhaka to counter Indian nationalists and INC who were protesting first partition of Bengal. Lord Minto also gave separate electorate to Muslims to strengthen Muslim League in 1909. The Muslim homeland resolution on March 23 1940 in Minto Park was a clear warning message by British to Indian nationalists to cease their activities or get ready for partition of Punjab and Bengal. Minto Park Lahore as per research is very near to Bradley Hall Lahore which was centre of Indian Nationalist and INC activities and its also near to the place where Shaheed Bhagat Singh had shot the British Police officer who had tortured Lala Lajpat Rai. This park is also close to the DAV college Civil Lines Lahore where Shaheed Bhagat Singh had taken refuge after that event. March 23 is also the date when Shaheed Bhagat Singh was hanged in Lahore in 1931. British deliberately selected March 23 as they were sending warning to Indian Nationalists. As per Indian researcher it was British particularly Churchill and deep state response set in motion the response that killed one million Punjabi and displaced ten million Punjabi and ejected Hindus and Sikhs from west Punjab and Lahore during partition as punishment for Michael O Dywer killing in London on March 13, 1940 by Sardar Udham Singh. This plan was first tested exactly seven years after murder of Michael O Dywer i.e in March 1947 when Sikh and Hindus were ejected from Rawalpindi. As per the Indian Researcher No body will teach this in any School in India as relations with UK can take a huge hit and Indian Punjabi can sue the British. As per him No one can challenge or mess with British and hold them accountable for any crime in India during Partition as they can do any thing in this world as they control it and all Indian elite love to visit and have villas and magnificent apartments and bank accounts in UK and their children also study in UK. As per him Gandhi ji wanted the Punjabi refugees back to their homes and lands in west Punjab and Lahore. For this he was in negotiation with New Muslim Homeland's Prime minister at that time and he wanted Leverage over New Muslim Homeland that is why he wanted India to give a portion of the Payment due to be made to New Muslim Homeland so that he could ask the Indian and New Muslim Homeland governments to accept back the refugees to their original homes but he was no more. So the Punjabi refugees could not return to their original homes where they were living for hundreds of years. Only Gandhi ji was in the field trying to prevent riots in Bengal. It was due to his efforts major riots were prevented in Bengal despite direct action initiated by deep state. For the Direct Action and Calcutta Riots all goons were brought from other provinces on buses. This was not possible without the help of British administration. During Direct Action Day in 1946, the Governor of Bengal was Frederick Burrows who was Churchills man. Gandhi ji played a key role in prevention of Punjab like situation in Bengal. He could not be in Punjab as he could not be at the both places at the same time. As per the researcher British Prime minister at the time Atlee knew only person who can stand against Churchill and deep state is member of Royal Family Mount Batten that is why Atle had sent him to India to take on Churchill and keep India united. Churchill and deep state was mainly responsible for partition as he wanted to Punish Indian Nationalists at all costs both in Bengal and in Punjab. He was not even Prime Minister in 1947 as he had lost the British elections in 1945 but despite that he managed to pull this partition through through his men in India who were in Indian Civil Services and Politics. An example is Evan Jenkins the Governor of Punjab was his loyalist and he forced S P Sanga the Speaker of United Punjab assembly to give his decisive vote in favor of partition of Punjab when the votes were tied in Punjab Assembly. Even though Mountbatten, Attlee, Nehru and Gandhi wanted a united India, Indian Administration that is Governors and Commissioner and Political Parties were rife with Churchill loyalists who were still working on his plan. Mount Batten and Attlee wanted to consider the contribution of Sikhs during first world war but Churchill was adamant in punishing the supporters of Indian Nationalists at all costs.Even RadCliffe was his man. His partition maps were already drawn before his arrival. Gurdaspur, Ferozpur, Amritsar were given to New Muslim Homeland as per maps but Mountbatten came to know and forced RadCliffe to give not only Gurdaspur, Ferozpur, Amritsar to India but also Lahore, Gujranwala and Sialkot. Radcliffe was caught between Churchill and Mountbatten. Churchill had strictly told him not to change the maps but after Mountbatten used his royal connections on Radcliffe he budged and gave Gurdaspur, Ferozpur, Amritsar to India. Churchill and deep state then arranged tribal attack on Kashmir through British Officers. Mountbatten sent forces in Kashmir. He was under severe presure in Baramola and had decided to attack Lahore if his forces were defeated in Kashmir. Tribals were also led by British officers who had already handed over Gilgit to New Muslim Homeland. Eventually Churchill decided to pull back tribals from Kashmir and Mountbatten also agreed and decided to take Kashmir issue to UN. Churchill also had ensured that Mount Batten does not become the Governor General of both India and New Muslim Homeland as he felt that upon the killing and displacements during partition in Punjab Mount Batten may revoke the Partition altogether. Churchill had intelligence that Mount Batten would revoke the partition and re-unite India and New Muslim Homeland just like it was done in 1911 when partition of Bengal was revoked and Bengal was reunited which was the iggest defeat of British Deep state. In this game of Chess between Churchill and Mountbatten, Churchill had won in Punjab though Mountbatten had partial victory in Kashmir and Bengal was tied as though Bengal was partitioned but Churchill and deep state riots plan was failed through efforts of Gandhi ji. In brief events of Partition in 1947 in Punjab were pre-planned by Churchill and related to murder of Michael O Dywer which was related to Jalianwala bagh and which was linked to the rape of European Nun Marcella Sherwood in a street called Kucha Kurrichhan right before Jalianwala Bagh massacre. As per the researcher if Udham Singh had not killed Michael O Dywer then there was 90% Chance that Partition of Punjab and Bengal would not have happened and killings during partition would not have taken place. Also this was Churchills plan B as he was not the prime minister during 1945. Imagine what his his plan A would have done. As per researcher mainstream academics and Professors do not accept his research as they love UK. Mainsteam history professors are not willing to go against the established history. He encourages history PhD students and history graduates to validate this research themselves using date mapping method in which events happened in the same time period are analyzed through history books and checked if they are related to each other. As per Researcher British will never apologize for Jalianwala Bagh massacre as then they will have to apologize for Partition of Punjab and Bengal as this was also done as revenge by British for the killing of Michael O Dywer. British will have to pay compensations to millions of Punjabi families which they will never do. As per researcher his research is open source and free to use to write books and articles and to use it in any video form. As per researcher even separation of Sindh from Bombay presidency in 1936 was also a punishment by British to Indian Nationalists as they had refused to accept Government of India Act 1935 but that story will be told some other time. Also Have you wondered why Lahore was handed over to new Muslim Homeland instead of India. Initially it was supposed to be part of India but that City Lahore has secrets which if it had come to India would have come into public knowledge Remember they took Kohinoor from Lahore. By not giving Lahore to India British ensured they will hold on to Kohinoor for all eternity. That story will be told later as well.

  6. Have you wondered why Lahore did not become part of India. Answer is Kohinoor. Initially it was supposed to be part of India but on radio announcement it was the first city announced as going other way which was a shock. This was done as that City Lahore has secrets which if it had come to India would have come into public knowledge in India would have spilled real reasons of partition. City of Lahore has more secrets than Da Vinci code. From Battle of Mukde to parition 100 years of British EIC secrets hidden there. Remember they took Kohinoor from Lahore. By not giving Lahore to India British ensured they will hold on to Kohinoor for all eternity. We only know about Kohinoor and other items but there was a lot transferred to Britain from Lahore Darbar treasury of Maharajab Ranjeet Singh some very mysterious treasures some strange things which never came to public knowledge and British want to hang on them for all times.
Second reason is Lahore Conspiracy Case. Bhagat Singh, along with Shivaram Rajguru and Sukhdev Thapar, was hanged in Lahore on March 23, 1931, following their conviction in the
